Oversized vs regular fit t-shirt: which should you buy?

Buy the oversized fit if you want a boxy, relaxed look and a heavier shirt. Buy the regular fit if you want a closer cut, a lighter shirt and a lower price. In a size M, our oversized tee is 21 1/8 in across the chest and 28 in long, while the regular tee is 20 in across and 29 in long. So the oversized one is about 1 inch wider and 1 inch shorter, with dropped shoulders. It's also 6 oz cotton against 4.2 oz, and it costs $39.99 against $29.99.

Both are printed in the USA after you order, and US shipping is free on both. Here is the rest of what changes between the two.

What is the difference between a regular and an oversized t-shirt?

The cut. Our regular tee is the Bella+Canvas 3001, a classic crew neck where the shoulder seam sits on your shoulder. Our oversized tee is the Bella+Canvas 3010 Oversized Boxy Tee. Its shoulder seam drops past your shoulder, the body is wider and a little shorter, and the sleeves end closer to your elbow.

Wider and shorter is what "boxy" means. The tee hangs straight down from the chest.

Is an oversized tee just a regular tee in a bigger size?

No. Sizing up in a regular tee mostly makes it longer. Compare a regular L with an oversized M:

| | Chest, flat | Length | |---|---|---| | Regular M | 20 in | 29 in | | Regular L | 22 in | 30 in | | Oversized M | 21 1/8 in | 28 in |

The regular L is wider, but it's also 2 inches longer than the oversized M, and its shoulders still sit where a normal tee's do. You get a big tee, not a boxy one. That's why we tell people to buy their usual size in the oversized fit. The full chart for every size is in should you size up in an oversized t-shirt?

Which one is thicker?

The oversized tee. Printful lists its fabric at 6 oz per square yard, and the regular tee at 4.2 oz. Both are 100% combed and ring-spun cotton, except heather colors, which have some polyester in them.

The difference is easy to feel. The 6 oz shirt hangs heavier and holds its shape, and the 4.2 oz one is soft and light. We wrote more about the weight number in is a 6 oz t-shirt heavy?

Is the regular tee see-through?

It can be a little. Printful's own note says the 3001's fabric is slightly sheer and may look see-through in lighter colors or in some light. On Black or Navy you won't notice it. If that bothers you, the 6 oz oversized tee is the safer pick.

Which one is better when it's hot?

The regular one. At 4.2 oz it's the lighter shirt, so it's the easier one to wear on a hot day. The oversized tee has more room, but the cloth is heavier.

How much does each one cost?

Regular tees are $29.99 and oversized tees are $39.99. Shipping is free anywhere in the United States on both, and most orders arrive in 5 to 9 business days.

What sizes come in each fit?

The oversized tee comes in XS to 3XL. The regular tee goes from XS to 4XL or 5XL, depending on the design. If you wear 4XL or 5XL, the regular fit is the one that comes in your size.

Is the print the same on both?

Yes. When a design comes in both fits, we use the same print file at the same width and height on both tees, placed at the top of the chest. The print sits in the same spot and looks the same size on both, even though the oversized tee has the bigger print area: 14 by 16 in against 12 by 16 in.

Which designs come in both fits?

Six right now: Yin Yang Dragon, Stay Weird Alien, Pizza Cat, Protect Your Peace Cat, That Wasn't a Microdose and Everything Hurts and I'm Hungry. On those product pages there's a Fit switch, so you can flip between the two and see the price and colors change. Everything else is oversized only for now, and you can see all 34 in oversized graphic tees.

What if I pick the wrong fit?

You have 7 days after delivery to send a tee back for a full refund, and changing your mind is a fine reason. Send it back unused and unwashed, with the tag on. If the fit is right but the size isn't, pick "Size doesn't fit" on your order page and we send the same design in the new size for free.

Do oversized t-shirts run big?

They're cut big on purpose, so buy your normal size. Our oversized M is about 1 in wider and 1 in shorter than our regular M.

Should I size down in an oversized tee?

Only if you want it to fit close to a regular tee. Sizing down takes away the wide body, which is the point of the cut.

Is oversized or regular better for a big print?

Oversized. Its print area is 14 by 16 in, the larger of the two, and it's where our biggest designs are.
